Shakespeare Loves Monsoon Patrice Kyger 9781257650354 Books Reviews
Exciting, engaging, great dialog and fun to read. I feel like I have visited India, even though I haven't -- yet. But this book makes me want to go to India and want to keep my eye out for more books by this author.
Another fun read for Bollywood fans. The story is fast moving, full of mystery and romance. It catches the atmosphere of India and you are totally immersed in the culture. Ready for another by this author.
I could feel the rain and see the stars - yes, the ones we see in the top Bollywood movies! Ms. Kyger has a great gift for creating wonderful visual images. Shakespeare Loves Monsoon is filled with intrigue and romance. AND, you feel like you've been treated to a trip to Mumbai without leaving your own comfortable reading chair. Well done.
I enjoyed Shakespeare loves Bollywood, but I REALLY enjoyed Shakespeare Loves Monsoon. The author paints a picture of India that one can visualize, feel, smell and taste, while keeping us engaged in the character relationships and the story. The ease and humor with which the author writes draws you in immediately and keeps you interested throughout. You'll love being in India with these characters!
This follow-up novel to Shakespeare Loves Bollywood exceeded my expectations! The first book had twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat, and this one had a different tone and cadence. The first chapter or two kept me guessing as the characters interacted, but soon the plot was off in Mumbai, and I felt like I was there, fully experiencing all the aspects of that culture. I was intrigued by the way the author used the bollywood film industry as her main 'set' yet allowed the reader glimpses into the other parts of Mumbai.
Character development was key in this book and I like how they are growing and evolving. As they make decisions and their lives change I felt like I was right there, getting to know them better.
I would highly recommend this title and the first book too, if you haven't read them. Please consider a trilogy Ms. Kyger!
Sometimes sequels require the first several pages to reaquaint the reader with the characters and happenings in the first novel. Not so with Shakespeare Loves Monsoon, the sequel to Shakespeare Loves Bollywood. The reader becomes quickly involved in the life of Rachel, her daughter, best friend, and love interest in the new plot while being reminded of the previous happenings over the course of the book. The author adeptly sensitizes us to the living conditions of impoverished children without taking away the joy of the story. The reader also cannot escape the gender issues that are woven effortlessly into the novel. I like to read a book that holds my interest as the characters are developed and at the same time be challenged to broaden my understanding, in this case, of another culture. Shakespeare Loves Monsoon did that for me. I applaud Patrice Kyger.
This is a sequel to Shakespeare Loves Bollywood. Shakespeare Loves Monsoon is a pageturner within the landscape of the movie industry of India. Very engaging and well written.
